Speech Pathologist
Duties and Responsibilities:
These people diagnose, treat, and help to prevent swallowing disorders in patients. Speech, language, and swallowing disorders can cause stroke, brain injury, hearing loss, or emotional problems. When they diagnose the patients they need to communicate with the patient to find their speech level. In order to evaluate their speech level they ask the patient to do basic reading. During treatment they help the patients make sounds and improve their voices. For people that don’t speech at all, they include sign language during the treatment process.
Average Salary: $69,870
Educational Requirements:
You must have a master’s degree. you must take some courses before you enter the program. Courses that include age-specific speech disorders, and supervised clinical practice coursework. They must be licensed in almost all the states. Some of the states require graduation diploma. You must be able to have skills of reading test results. Listening skills, and having patients.
Reflection: I would like to have this job because I would like to change someone’s life because I can’t imagine not being able to talk.
