Operating
Room Technician
Duties and Responsibilities:
Another word for operating room technicians is
surgical technicians, or surgical technologists. They help set up the rooms for
surgery. They assist/help in preparing the rooms that are for surgery. The technicians
are responsible for having the instruments or tools needed for the operation. They
also have an option of staying in the room and helping the doctor by handing
the doctor the instruments. Once the operation is complete the technicians are
in charge of taking the patient to the recovery room.
Average Salary:$16,000-$22,000
Educational Requirements:
A high school diploma must be in order, or an
GED certificate. A variety of the junior colleges have the programs, as well as
the training that can be done in large hospitals. The program can last from
between one year or up to two years. At the end of the training the students
must take an examination to become certified.
Reflection: I would want to have this career because it seems like a good
experience and the career can affect many people, for example I can save lives.
I can help patients in the recovery room. I like to make people have hope for
example if they just had surgery I can tell them that they can have hope that
the surgery went well.
